This is a rather large (approximately one and a half foot tall) doll I made, based loosely on Brian Froud's designs, like in Dark Crystal. He's made largely out of cloth and translucent Sculpey3 over a wire armature, but there's a lot of other materials involved.

Sculpey3 is a heat-setting polymer clay. It comes in a large variety of colors... you make what you want and then bake it in the oven. Translucent sculpey is, indeed, translucent, and when you overbake it, it turns a lovely shade of golden brown. The trick is learning how to bake it so that it doesn't actually burn.
