An original fiend design... not a boss, just a critter, one of those things that die in droves under the unwavering blades of your party. Naetheless... working in the job I do, I often get a chance to study the real biology I can use to make a believable monster.
This one is based on a real animal, believe it or not. Whoever first guesses what it is gets...oh, hell, I dunno, a virtual cookie. But give it a go!
I saw this, thought, "cool," enlarged it, then thought, "it looks like a mutated mix between a flea and a shrimp."
I still think it looks neat, but thinking about it the way I described above makes it more than a tad creepy.
It's very detailed and the apparent effort and planning put into it is nice to see. The mono chromatic color scheme does not detract from the whole at all. In fact, I think that having the picture in realistic color would detract from the final effect that the fiend has. I think that I would look at home in a old, old book with crabby writing detailing the fiends abilities, strengths and weaknesses so that some wanderer or scholar would read about it.
Ohmglove. ! Marine things are my faaavorites. This one's got a nice amalgamation of a ton of 'em!
Looks more like a massive hybrid of a lot of different cool things, but if I had to choose a single creature to assume this was based on, I'd guess the anomalocaris. XD
It's actually based mostly on a combination of a crab larva and those little arctic arthropods that I can't for the life of me remember what they're called right now. ^_^
The detail on this is simply stunning beyond words. At first, I thought it kind of looked like an anglerfish, but then I noticed all the different aspects of it seperately. In any case, it's a breathtaking piece of artwork.
