I still think it looks neat, but thinking about it the way I described above makes it more than a tad creepy.
It's very detailed and the apparent effort and planning put into it is nice to see. The mono chromatic color scheme does not detract from the whole at all. In fact, I think that having the picture in “realistic” color would detract from the final effect that the fiend has. I think that I would look at home in a old, old book with crabby writing detailing the fiend’s abilities, strengths and weaknesses so that some wanderer or scholar would read about it.
Looks more like a massive hybrid of a lot of different cool things, but if I had to choose a single creature to assume this was based on, I'd guess the anomalocaris. XD
